I am so happy I was able to get this "Gem" to add to my Pirate Movie collection!!! I am also a fan of John Payne a highly underappreciated actor!!! While the bulk of the action takes place on a island make no mistake this is every bit a pirate movie...much like " Moon fleet" it shows a part of the Pirate business that's often overlooked & that's the fencing or laundering of stolen goods! If you have never seen this movie you are in for a treat with the additional acting talents of Sir Cedric Hardwick & Arlene Dahl as well as some other very talented actors you may recognize from Hollywood's stable of actors!!! Right out of the gate the action starts when a duck hunting settler witnesses the notorious pirate Captain Barclay burying treasure as well as one of his crew over top of the treasure! This was a old pirate trick so anyone that happens to notice the unsettled earth will find the body & figure its just a shallow grave. Our duck hunting settler is forced to give away his hidden position when a very real looking Water Moccasin gets a little to close for comfort! This is when the fun really starts as captain Barclay notices a resemblance to his enemies' nephew & devises a clever plot that will either make ( John Payne's) character Dick Lindsay either very rich or very dead depending solely on his ability to pull off one of the best scheme's I have ever seen in a Pirate movie!!!! I would love to tell you more but don't want to spoil it for anyone that's willing to take a chance to add this great movie to their pirate movie collection!!!
